Venice Film Festival: Claudia Conte’s “Women in Cinema Award” returns

WiCA 2025: the winners of the prestigious women’s film award

The Women in Cinema Award (WiCA), the award celebrating female talent in international cinema, returns at the 82nd Venice Film Festival. Now in its 11th year, the award is conceived, produced and conducted by Claudia Conte.

The awardees of the 2025 edition

This year the WiCA honored prominent personalities in the film scene:

Main Awards:

  • Julia Ducournau – Director
  • Silvio Soldini – Director
  • Anna Foglietta – Actress
  • Romana Maggiora Vergano – Young Interpreter

Special Acknowledgements:

  • Maria Vittoria R ava – President Francesca Rava Foundation (25th anniversary)
  • Stefania Rocca – For social commitment through artistic career

A special dedication: children victims of war and poverty

The 2025 edition of the Women in Cinema Award is dedicated to children and girls victims of war, poverty and repression, emphasizing the social role of cinema as a tool for raising awareness.

Institutional statements

Luca Zaia, President of the Veneto Region, said, “Veneto is honored to be the setting for this important event that shines a spotlight on the affirmation and narrative of the social role of women through cinema. Cinema is an undisputed art form and a fundamental means of communication to enhance the themes of rights, equality, and inclusiveness.”

Claudia Conte, creator of the award, added, “I am proud that the Women in Cinema Award is returning to Venice, because here more than anywhere else the value of cinema as a tool for change is recognized.”

Ceremony schedule
