Pin-Up Stars SS27: Beachwear Takes on a New Form and Blooms on the Skin

Handcrafted three-dimensional flowers, butterflies, sheer fabrics, and references to the world of sailing. Jerry Tommolini presents a Spring/Summer 2027 collection based on a simple yet important principle: there is no single body to dress, nor a single way to experience swimwear.

For a long time, the swimsuit has been one of the most difficult garments to discuss without inevitably ending up talking about the body, measurements, and supposed perfection. For Spring/Summer 2027, Pin-Up Stars is trying to shift the perspective: it doesn’t ask women to adapt to the swimsuit, but designs the swimsuit with different women in mind.

This is probably the most interesting aspect of the new collection designed by Jerry Tommolini. Behind the flowers, butterflies, embroidery, and sheer fabrics lies a focus on fit that runs throughout the entire collection. Brazilian-cut bottoms coexist with more modest styles; triangle tops give way to bras designed for fuller busts and balconette styles, while one-piece swimsuits range from high-cut silhouettes to more form-fitting designs with invisible support.

“Girl,” “lady,” and “curvy” are the three different body types highlighted by the brand, but the interesting concept goes beyond these definitions: it offers women the chance to choose how much to reveal and how to feel confident, without compromising the garment’s character.

Then come the flowers. And here, the collection shifts gears.

Pin-Up Stars’ spring collection isn’t simply printed on fabric. Floral bouquets and laser-cut butterflies emerge from bikinis and dresses with a three-dimensional effect, created entirely by hand. The embellishments take on volume—almost movement—while pastel shades, lace, and ultra-light tulle are adorned with large tone-on-tone rhinestones. The result elevates swimwear to a level closer to high fashion, where craftsmanship and materials become part of the story.

Even the zebra—a recurring motif in the brand’s universe—loses some of its aggressiveness. Butterflies lighten the design, while crescent-shaped horns and rough stones introduce small textural elements that break up the predictability of the animal print.

Then, almost like a change of scenery, the setting shifts from the gardens to the open sea.

With the America’s Cup, the collection embraces the spirit of great regattas. Red and blue stripes inspired by sailors’ flags adorn bikinis and clothing; gold-tone metal appears in rings, sculptural porthole-shaped accents, and anchor-shaped pendants, while nautical knots and maritime details come together to create a wardrobe that pays homage to sailing without becoming a themed costume.

It is also here that we come to understand the direction Tommolini has chosen: beachwear no longer necessarily ends at the beach. Swimwear becomes part of an outfit, complements clothing and accessories, and can be worn at different times of the day. It is no longer just what we wear to go into the water, but an element of the summer wardrobe with its own identity.

With three-dimensional flowers and nautical motifs, Pin-Up Stars’ Spring/Summer 2027 collection brings together worlds that seem worlds apart. What unites them is a vision of femininity that doesn’t seek a single formula.

Because perhaps the best swimsuit isn’t the one that promises to transform the body. It’s the one that manages to flatter it without asking it to be different.
