Massimo Pividori: music that gives voice to colors by Vittorio Menditto

A tale of shapes, sounds and courage, where art becomes the language of redemption

To be born once is destiny. Being born again is an act of will. This is the heart of Born Twice, the exhibition that brought Vittorio Menditto’s painting to Venice last May, coinciding with the opening of the Architecture Biennale. Promoted by Omnium Art Department and curated by Piermario Fattor and Paola Dongu, the exhibition staged not only an artistic journey, but a true statement of life.

Menditto’s paintings are born out of fractures and reconstructions. Each brushstroke seems to pass through pain to beyond it, until it leaves room for beauty and new possibilities. The artist recounts, with the silent power of color, his experience of rebirth: first in body, then in soul.

In 2006 an accident left him a quadriplegic. But that fate did not turn into surrender. An encounter with painter Vincenzo Gualtieri, who sensed his talent by observing some drawings, prompted him to attend art classes at the hospital. From there, the discovery of a language capable of not only saving him but redefining his existence. Painting as an act of resistance and at the same time as openness to others.

The Venetian exhibition returned all this: a painting that does not just tell the story, but bears witness to the journey of those who have found a new breath where there seemed to be no more room. Not just the intimate journey of an artist, but a universal message: everyone, at least once, has felt the need to begin again.

Interwoven with this narrative thread today is a new chapter, Vorticity. A project combining visual art and music, released on August 22, 2025 on the most popular music platforms by Omnium Art Department Records. Starring, in addition to Menditto, master accordionist Massimo Pividori and Roberto Michelizza.

Looking at the shapes in the painting, I found the tempo of the music,” Pividori says, ” and out of the colors came the notes.” Menditto’s work, with its sinuous and concentric forms, thus becomes a visual score: a flow that is echoed in musical compositions, where colors are transformed into sound and lines become rhythm.

The artist himself describes his canvas as follows: “My paralyzed body is comparable to an engine without a transmission. However, the strength of the soul manages to ennoble this weakness. I wanted to give the impression of the movement that has now abandoned my body for many years. Vortex-like shapes, sounds that arise and end in unison: a coming together toward the hope of rebirth .”

The EP, which includes two original tracks and an instrumental version, closes with the bonus track Evolution: a track with indie/chill atmospheres that takes the accordion beyond the boundaries of tradition, evoking Mediterranean sunsets and international suggestions.

As in Born Twice, fragility becomes creative energy in Vorticity. Painting and music do not explain each other, but mirror each other. It is in this dialogue that the true essence of Menditto’s work emerges: transforming what breaks into what unites, returning a tale of resilience, strength and shared beauty.
