Ten Years of Elegance and Entrepreneurial Spirit: Villa Lario Resort Celebrates the Lario and Its Women

Toast to the 10th year of operation of Villa Lario Resort in Mandello sul Lario, on the branch of Manzoni’s memory. Two entrepreneurial friends, Esa Secca and Raffaella Di Gennaro have transformed a early 20th-century mansion into a five-star boutique hotel. On display in the resort’s garden is Lucia 125, one of the Mazonian symbols, with the addition of 125, the hotel’s house number. The Amandus gourmet restaurant, also open to outsiders, is signed by Chef Luca Mozzanica. A limited-edition Larienne gin was created to celebrate the birthday, London dry gin distilled and bottled exclusively for Villa Lario Resort by Cillario&Marazzi Spirits Co. distillery in Cadegliano Viconago, in tribute to the female spirit of the Lario, the resourcefulness of the two female entrepreneurs. The villa was built in the 1920s by the noble Milanese Biffi-Capalbi family, who made it their summer residence, after which ownership passed to a then Moto Guzzi executive, and then became the property of the Grundig family, which later donated the property to a German foundation to house retired artists and politicians. After various travails, in 2010 the villa was purchased by entrepreneurs from Lecco, and in 2015 it became Villa Lario Resort thanks to the stubbornness and enthusiasm of Esa Secca and Raffaella Di Gennaro .

The hotel’s strategic location allows for many activities from visiting Villa Monastero, a house museum with garden to the Moto Guzzi museum, from nature trails such as the wayfarer’s trail to boat or mountain bike routes between mountains and lakes to helicopter tours and wine and food experiences.
